Perry and Carlson Gallery is pleased to announce RESIST, sponsored by  Skagit Women Print.

30 prominent northwest artists take a stand in the time-honored tradition of protest art, inspired by the rich history of grassroots political posters.

Each has created an original print using traditional printmaking methods for this exhibition at Perry and Carlson. The artists will then use reproductions of originals to send to Senators and Representatives, post to social media, and create banners and signs for protests—fuel needed to restore sanity, justice and healing to a fractured world.

Please join us for an opening reception with the artists on Thursday September 7 from 5-8 pm, at 508 S 1st Street, Mount Vernon, Washington.

Artists: Natalie Niblack, Jessica Lynch, Kris Ekstrand, Stella Spring, Jane Alynn, Kathleen Faulkner, Christine Skinner, Sue Roberts, Jessica Dodge, Katheryn Glowen, Christie Houston, Anne Martin McCool, Alan Ayers, Kristin Loffer Theiss, Jules Remedios Faye, Ann Reid, Nicolette Harrington, Bobbi Lauducci, Jessica Gigot, Heidi Epstein, Joan Stuart Ross, Pilar Burkland, Sequoia Ferrel, Cathy Schoenberg, Pam Mills, Claire Putney, Theodora Jonsson, Lisa Kuhnlein, and Ellen Michael.

The 18 contributors to Skagit Women Print include printmakers and painters, as well as poets, photographers, and ceramic artists. Each artist produced an edition of 25 prints, drawing from a range of printmaking methods, including linoleum block, wood block, solar plate etching, vitreograph, mezzotint, chine collé and serigraph.

In this suite of original prints the theme reflects on how the Skagit Valley influences each artist’s work or life. This collaboration is a first-time endeavor that began in the Summer of 2013 and concluded a year later. Participating artists worked together throughout the year to explore and refine methods and processes.

The project was conceived by artists Natalie Niblack and Jules Remedios Faye, who helped facilitate skill sharing workshops and access to print facilities.

HALF-REMEMBERED DREAMS

“Half-remembered Dreams,” an exhibition of black and white photographs into toned gelatin silver prints from film negatives, evoke memories and half-remembered dreams, a sense of the fragile, fleeting, ephemeral. Ambiguous, nudging toward abstraction, these lensless images tempt the imagination to see beyond the literal.
